FRGP introduction - 1/19/2012

The Front Range GigaPoP (FRGP) is a consortium of Universities, non-profit corporations, and government agencies that cooperate in an aggregation point called the FRGP in order to enable research and education by sharing wide area networking services, access to the commodity Internet, access to the Internet2 research network, and access to the National LambdaRail (NLR). The current members are listed on the FRGP Members page.

The FRGP is one of several Regional Optical Networks (RONs) in the US. RON members typically enjoy reduced costs, shared expertise, shared services, increased buying power, and economies of scale.

UCAR provides the management, engineering, and network operations center support for the FRGP.

More introductory details are available in this overview document.
